Sunday blessings

Husband and I were surprised yesterday with an unexpected visit from Sandy and Jimmy. They decided to just get on their bikes and come see us. They also surprised us with a bag full of hibiscus seeds from their garden.

We will start the seeds early next spring and hopefully we will have enough plants for a large flowerbed. I love the look of these flowers.

We were also blessed late this afternoon with blessed RAIN.

Our ground was so dry, it literally sucked all the moisture up as fast as it poured down. It was wonderful. We had not received any real rain for over a month and everything was dry beyond belief.

Following our brief rain, we were blessed with a horde of hummingbirds coming to our feeders. They have been really scarce this year but all of a sudden we had at least six buzzing around one of our feeders. Of course I had to grab my camera in the hope that I would get a few good shots of these ruby-throated beauties.

Seeing all these beautiful hummers (my absolute favorite birds in the world) was a big thrill and was the icing on my wonderful cake of a day. Such a nice day -- spent with good people, enjoying each other's company, sharing a meal and good conversation, swimming with husband. What more could a person ask for? MORE RAIN.

You got RAIN?! We haven't had a drop in at least 6 weeks, maybe longer. I am SO JEALOUS of your rain!

However, we've had hummingbirds all summer. 3-4 each night at my one lowly feeder.

Wow, you were truly blessed! The unplanned visits are always the best aren't they? And it doesn't surprise me at all that you are one to actually count your blessings and share them with us, thanks!

We have had a bit of rain on the mountain where I work, but none down here in the high desert for about two weeks. I didn't plant many flowers outside this summer as it seems just the weeds want to grow. I do have some petunias in pots on our porch and my lonely hibiscus grows well and flowers in the house. We have 4 hummingbird feeders up here and the little devils are like vultures. I spend more money on sugar for them than for the rest of the family. We have 2 varieties that visit on a daily basis and a rufie that stops in occasionally for a drink. He usually stirs everyone else up. Beautiful little birds.....

WOW! You got rain. If it doesn't rain soon over here I'm afraid I might forget what that wet stuff looks like, hehehe

I wish it would have rained on us coming home...that would have felt so good and I would have counted that as a blessing, considering how hot it was.

Love your hummingbird pictures and you do have many hummingbirds. Every time I turned around I saw one or two fluttering around.

I love surprises and it's nice to see the surprised looks on your faces when we just show up...(sometimes the surprise is on us when you are not home).

Jimmy & I enjoyed our visit & swim and of course your fantastic home cooking. Thanks a bunch for making our visit an enjoyable one as usual. Hope to see you soon.

Good to hear you had such a lovely Sunday of socialsing and swimming!

I love the photos, especially those beautiful hummingbirds.

It's raining here, too, and we are just as excited as you were! Our new tank which has been empty since it was installed a couple of months ago is finally filling... just over half full as I type!

That rainfall must have been so welcome in your area!

Wasn't that rain great? We got some, too, and we really needed it. Great photos of the hummingbirds--we have some, too, and they LOVE the hibiscus outside our window.

We had even more hummingbirds show up today. I think they are sending out messages to bring in the relatives. There are already feeders at the house we are looking at on the mountain and I know they have beautiful green ones up here. Motherkitty - thanks again for having patience with me while I got my head out of the clouds and figured out this blog photo thing............

What a wonderful blessing indeed to have Sandy and Jimmy show up out of the blue. Sounds like it was good swimming weather. I wouldn't mind sampling some of that MK homestyle cooking.
Love your bird pics.Aren't the hummers wonderful? They constantly entertain us with their antics. Most of ours have left, but there's one little juvenile still hanging around. We're always so sad to see them go, knowing we won't see them again for 8 months.
I'm so glad you got some rain and hope you've had more since then.

We had a little rain this week too. Oh, you're gonna love Noshville! Just come with a big appetite! It's a nice pick me up, especially after a doctor's visit. I had forgot you were in KY and came down periodically.
