Praying on a Sunday

Prayer is the act of attempting to communicate, commonly with a sequence of words, with a deity or spirit for the purpose of worshiping, requesting guidance, requesting assistance, confessing sins, or to express one's thoughts and emotions. The words of the prayer may take the form of a hymn, incantation, or a spontaneous utterance in the praying person's words.

This is what we saw this afternoon right outside our kitchen slider. This was the biggest one we have ever seen and we don't know if it is a female or a male. I wasn't going to ask either.

Do you think our friend came to pray for us or to prey on us?

I went out to do a little pool work and when I was coming back in; as I stepped onto the step I saw this guy. I called Motherkitty and told her to bring the camera. She came to the door with the camera. I was standing still just watching. The mantis was also still just a foot from my body. Motherkitty had no clue as to why I was standing still at the doorway. She stepped besides me and looked out toward the garden not knowing as to where the mantis was. She was still looking toward the garden when I showed her the mantis. She jumped back and the mantis lifted his legs ready to go a round. The mantis and Motherkitty moved into the house and I stepped in and shooed the mantis back out side. Motherkitty was still squealing and also praying that the mantis would go out; he did and she took the photos.

Maybe he was just visiting, wondering what you were having for Sunday dinner!

I'm gone for a few days and you've posted three times! Love your beautiful sunrise photos. Just stunning.. I have a blogging helper in Vincent too. He weighs a ton and it's hard to do much when he perches on me!
That praying mantis is huge..
Thanks for the love and support for Grandpa.

Yikes!! Good luck, perhaps, but they are scary looking! Especially now that I know they can actually jump!

I think they are "praying" for some "preying"!!!

Jimmy would say that the mantis was there to prey on you. Jimmy doesn't trust them at all. I think they're neat and I always love seeing all of their hundreds of little teesy, tiny babies. They're very beneficial, but Jimmy doesn't agree with me.

I laughed and laughed at Dennis' comment especially the part about you squealing and praying that the mantis would go out.

I so totally respect these guys! They are the best friends in your garden and so gentle if you handle them carefully---in spite of that terrible video of them eating a mouse on the Internet.
